about

Once Atlas City was destroyed by a cruel civil war, society was plunged into a period of hardship and barbarism. Although it soon began to recover. In this way, what had become a ghost city was refounded after forty years under the name of New Babel. A new city that was born from the ashes of the old Atlas City metropolis.

The first years of this new era were ones of expansion and growth, in which the borders of the city were expanded, baptizing the new territory as the Federal Republic of New Babel. But what could have been a notable advance for the inhabitants of this new state structure did not take long to once again become a country full of inequalities, misery and confrontations between the population and the forces of order. A force dominated by a new elite who went from being slaves in previous times to practically becoming slavers in the power mechanism of New Babel.

It is from here that an important resistance is born that will be reflected in the courage and bravery of two twin brothers who will completely change the course of history: Suzan and Alan May. Despite their disagreements in the approach to this resistance, both characters will be able to put in check on several occasions the oppressive system that dominates the central axes of the New Babel machinery. But unfortunately, it will be in this fight that both Alan and Suzan will lose their lives, becoming martyrs of the popular revolution that will lead younger generations, like Arkady's, to completely overthrow all the power structures that were born. along with the founding of the Federal Republic of New Babel.

This interesting story is what Speaker Cabinets wanted to give us with their new and impressive album. A conceptual LP, through which they present us with a fictional story full of contrasts and questions that makes us wonder many things about humanity. Because, in the end, what they explain with Tales From New Babel (Ventilador Music, 2023) is an apocalyptic chronicle that could well be situated in reality, compared to many world conflicts that have taken place or continue taking place on a planet plagued by selfishness and the human inability to learn from past mistakes and suffering.

Thus, the powerful alternative rock band from Barcelona wanted to create an interesting work, to make us reflect and think. And they have done it after introducing us to their new imaginary through different singles with video clips that had already given us some clues about what it would be like and how it would end a story that is interesting and surprising in equal parts. A work full of meaning, which reminds us of such renowned albums as the legendary Plastic Beach (Warner Music, 2010), by Gorillaz. You do not miss the hype!
